“In these past six weeks, we’ve focused on development and results. That’s a journey I want to keep going with the players.

We broke some negative patterns and brought in positives to carry into the new season,” he said.

Van Nistelrooy also noted the importance of giving veteran striker Jamie Vardy a proper send-off.

“Helping Jamie with his closure and leaving the club in a good way was important to me. I was pleased with how that chapter ended.”

With Leicester facing Bournemouth in their final Premier League fixture this weekend, developments regarding van Nistelrooy’s position are expected soon after.

The Dutchman emphasized the need for clarity, both for the club and its supporters.

“If you look at my job, it’s about doing what’s best for the football club,” he said. “I stressed five weeks ago that it was a chance to start planning early. I thought that would benefit the club long term. That’s my perspective.”

He made it clear that his personal future is secondary to the club’s interests. “It’s not about me. It’s about what is best for the club.

I’ve always been transparent with the board and the chairman about that. Now it’s their decision how they wish to proceed.”
