Leicester City Target Seals £10m Transfer
Albert Gronbaek, previously linked with City, Lille, and Galatasaray during the winter, has now moved to France following his impressive performances with Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
While Leicester City’s search for an attacking midfielder continues, one of their targets has completed a move to France.
Albert Gronbaek has joined Rennes in Ligue 1 for a reported €12m (£10m) from Bodo/Glimt. The Danish player has impressed with his goals and assists for the Norwegian side, especially during their European campaigns.
Earlier this year, it was reported in Norway that City, Lille, Galatasaray, and Dean Smith’s Charlotte FC were all interested in a winter move for Gronbaek. However, City could not make any incoming transfers unless they sold players.
This summer, Gronbaek was available again, and City needed an attacking midfielder following Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s departure. Nevertheless, Gronbaek will now take the next step in his career at Rennes, who finished 10th in the French top flight last season.
The 23-year-old had maintained the impressive form that initially attracted City’s interest. Last season, Gronbaek scored six goals in the Europa Conference League and, playing in Norway’s summer league, recorded eight goals and two assists in 15 matches.
For City, the search continues. Matias Soule, the Juventus attacker, is a prominent target, with City in a transfer battle with Roma. Celtic’s Matt O’Riley is another player on their radar.
City were also tentatively linked to Callum O’Hare, a free agent after leaving Coventry. However, he has now signed with Sheffield United.
