The Lille striker faced Liverpool in the Champions League, scoring an equalizer to make it 1-1.
However, Harvey Elliott’s deflected shot secured a victory for Liverpool, sending them into the last 16.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the 34th minute, and Lille’s challenge was further complicated when Aïssa Mandi received a red card, reducing them to 10 men.
On the hour mark, Jonathan David equalized, but Elliott quickly restored Liverpool’s lead.
“They’re a very good team,” David said post-match. “I think they might be the best team in the world right now.

Facing the top team in the group, we knew it would be tough, and going down to 10 men made it even harder.
It’s frustrating; we wanted to hold on, but it’s very difficult. Scoring tonight was great, but we didn’t get the three points.”
David has now scored against Liverpool, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, and Juventus this season.
As his contract expires this summer, he is set to become one of Europe’s most sought-after free agents.
NewcastleWorld recently reported that Newcastle United is confident in their ability to sign the Canadian forward.
National reports indicate that four Premier League clubs and two Serie A teams have approached David’s agent, but Newcastle believes they can outmaneuver their rivals for his signature.
During his four years at Lille, David has netted 102 goals in 173 starts, including 18 goals in 31 appearances this season.
Before Lille, he showcased his talent at Gent, scoring 35 goals in just 58 starts.
Earlier this season, David spoke about his future: “What am I waiting for? It’s easier to say now since I’m in the last year of my contract.
Eventually, it’ll run out, and we’ll see what happens next year. I’m open to anything.
“The Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world, but it’s not Premier League or bust for me.
I’m open to any opportunity, and every league has its own challenges.”
David’s prolific form and versatility make him a highly desirable prospect, and his future will undoubtedly be a topic of significant interest in the months to come.
