“King Perplexed as Everton Set Medical to Finalize New Transfer This Week”
"Bryan King Questions Everton's Decision to Re-Sign Goalkeeper Asmir Begović"

A former Everton scout has expressed skepticism about 37-year-old Asmir Begović’s potential to challenge Jordan Pickford for the starting goalkeeper position at Goodison Park.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via X, August 20), Everton have agreed on a one-year deal with Begović, with the veteran goalkeeper expected to undergo his medical within the next 48 hours.

In an exclusive interview with Goodison News, the ex-scout questioned the logic behind the signing: “What’s the point of bringing Begović back?
He’ll return to the club as a backup for Pickford, but I don’t see him putting any real pressure on Pickford for the number one spot. He can certainly do a job as a number two, but not on a long-term basis.”
While Everton’s agreement with Begović might not excite the fanbase, it’s clear that the move is more about adding depth and experience to the squad than finding a serious competitor for Pickford.
Begović, who is not expected to play much during the 2024/25 season, could still prove valuable off the pitch.
His presence in the dressing room could be a stabilizing force, especially if Everton finds themselves in another relegation battle.
Having a seasoned professional like Begović could provide leadership and help to steady the squad in challenging times.
