The urgency to sign a striker has increased following confirmation that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has departed after the expiration of his contract.

In response, the Toffees have identified 22-year-old French forward Zeki Amdouni Barry—who scored 19 goals last season for Basel and Villarreal—as a prime replacement.

Barry to Everton ‘could become official in days’

Reports indicate that negotiations between Everton and Barry have progressed positively in recent weeks, though no official announcement has been made yet.

According to AS (1 July), Everton are now close to finalising the deal. Barry has already agreed personal terms with the Merseyside club, and Everton are nearing an agreement with his current club on a fee believed to be around £32.6 million.

The deal is expected to be completed “in the coming days,” with only minor bureaucratic formalities holding it up.

Everton Still Need Another Striker

While Barry’s arrival would be a step in the right direction, Everton will need to secure another forward to avoid relying solely on the young Frenchman, especially given the challenges of adapting to the Premier League from La Liga.

Furthermore, with Beto strongly linked with a move away from Goodison Park, Moyes cannot risk going into the 2025/26 season with just one senior striker.

Fortunately, Everton are reportedly in the market for two forwards this summer.

Securing both will be vital if Moyes wants to avoid a repeat of last season’s struggles in front of goal—an outcome the Toffees simply cannot afford at their new home, Hill Dickinson Stadium.
