Do 49ers Have A Brock Purdy Problem?

The San Francisco 49ers are poised to maintain their status as one of the NFL’s most talented teams for the upcoming 2024 season, as they continue their pursuit of a sixth championship title. However, they face significant financial decisions in the coming months.

Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is seeking a substantial contract extension as he enters the final year of his current deal, while quarterback Brock Purdy will soon be in line for compensation starting next offseason.

LeSean McCoy, speaking on FS1’s “Speak,” emphasized Purdy’s deservingness of a lucrative contract from the 49ers. Purdy’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable since being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Assuming the starting role in Week 13 of that season after beginning as the third-string quarterback, Purdy demonstrated in 2023 that he is undoubtedly among the league’s top quarterbacks.

Throughout the season, he amassed 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns, leading the league in passer rating, QBR, and yards per pass attempt.

Purdy guided the 49ers to the Super Bowl last season, although his performance against the Kansas City Chiefs was not stellar. Nevertheless, he played well enough to give the team a legitimate chance at victory.

At just 24 years old, Purdy’s potential for improvement is promising, and there is optimism that he may lead the 49ers to Super Bowl triumph in the near future.
