Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist praise Lukasz Fabiański for playing "as good as ever" as he nears his 40th birthday at West Ham.
On talkSPORT (17 December, 6:13am), two pundits praised Lukasz Fabianski for his stellar performance in West Ham’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Monday, where he denied Ryan Christie late in the game.
The Hammers faced 29 shots from Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. They took a late lead through Lucas Paquetá’s penalty, but Bournemouth equalized in the 90th minute with a free-kick from Enes Ünal.
Stelling commented, “One thing I would say is, Lukasz Fabianski – he’s almost 40, and he’s as good as ever, he was fantastic last night.”
McCoist added, “Fabulous, absolutely fabulous. Ryan Christie had two or three shots, one of which was close to Fabianski, but it was a very, very good save.
It’s great to see no age barrier, and he’s playing as well as he’s ever played, possibly.”
Fabianski’s form has been a pleasant surprise for West Ham this season.
When the campaign began in August, many expected Alphonse Areola to be the first-choice goalkeeper, with Fabianski as a backup.
However, after Areola’s poor performances, Fabianski was called up eight games ago, and his consistent displays have made him a key figure in the team.
Areola will likely fight to reclaim his spot, but as we approach the halfway point of the season, Fabianski shows no signs of relinquishing his role anytime soon.
Fabianski’s contract at the London Stadium expires in 2025, signaling the end of his time at West Ham is approaching.
However, given his current form, it’s hard to imagine the club wouldn’t consider offering hima new deal.
