An Italian newspaper reported on 22 July that Everton made an offer of £6.7 million with £1.3 million in add-ons for Jackson Tchatchoua, but Verona is seeking £8.4 million plus £1.7 million in add-ons.
Sean Dyche’s side is expected to return with a new bid soon, aiming to secure Tchatchoua this summer despite interest from other European clubs.
Everton’s first bid for Jackson Tchatchoua was rejected, but they plan to return with a higher offer. The full-back positions are among the weakest areas in Dyche’s squad for the 2024/25 season, especially with Nathan Patterson still injured.
Currently, veterans Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are the only natural right-backs available at Goodison Park, indicating the need for another defender this summer.
Tchatchoua, 22, is seen as a promising talent after securing a permanent move to Italy following a season-long loan with Verona. The right-back has also earned two international caps, having been called up to the Cameroon squad in May and playing in World Cup qualification matches against Cape Verde and Angola.
Given the current concerns about the full-back position, bringing in a young, talented player like Tchatchoua for a relatively low fee seems like a straightforward decision.
Although it’s unlikely to find a deal as advantageous as the one for Coleman in 2009, Tchatchoua could be an ideal signing at a reasonable cost.
However, the ability of Everton to finalize any transfers is uncertain, as Dan Friedkin has pulled out of the takeover deal at Goodison Park.
Everton insider Bryan King revealed to Goodison News on 7 July that the takeover faced a “stumbling block” due to money owed to 777 Partners.
Despite these challenges, fans have reason to be excited about the potential signing of the 22-year-old Tchatchoua.
