Report: Leeds Must Negotiate for ‘Incredible’ Player, Who May Be Available at a Bargain Price

On Tuesday evening, Manor Solomon became the sixth signing of the summer for Leeds United, though he is unlikely to be the last addition this week.

Leeds have less than three days remaining to complete up to three more signings, as several positions still require reinforcement.

The club is interested in strengthening their full-back positions, with Max Aarons of Bournemouth and Owen Wijndal of Ajax being potential targets.

In midfield, they are linked with Ao Tanaka, Philip Billing, and Gustavo Hamer.

Additionally, Leeds might pursue a new number 10, with Freiburg’s Roland Sallai emerging as a top candidate, potentially representing the signing of the summer in the Championship.

Regarding Ao Tanaka, Leeds’ pursuit has taken a new direction.

After a £13 million offer for Gustavo Hamer from Sheffield United was turned down, Leeds seem to have shifted focus back to Tanaka, a target from last summer.

Reports on Tuesday suggested that Leeds were preparing to activate Tanaka’s £2.65 million release clause.

However, a different update from BILD indicates that Tanaka might not actually have a release clause, although this is not expected to significantly affect Leeds’ interest.

Tanaka’s contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf is set to expire in less than a year.

Although Fortuna could negotiate on the price, BILD reports that he might not command a high transfer fee.

Given his recent impressive goal-scoring record for both club and country, Leeds could secure a valuable player at a bargain price.

Ipswich Town’s manager, Kieran McKenna, who faced Tanaka and Fortuna Düsseldorf in a pre-season friendly this summer, praised Tanaka’s skills.

Following the 2-1 win against Ipswich, McKenna highlighted Tanaka’s “incredible technique” and noted his high regard for the midfielder, stating, “Anyone serious about football will know a little about him.

He has incredible technique. But there are other good players at Fortuna, too.”
