The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to Storm Darragh.
Everton released a statement just over three hours before kickoff, citing “adverse weather conditions” as the reason for the delay.
Much of the UK has been battered by winds of up to 90mph and heavy rain, with Liverpool under an “amber severe wind warning” until early Sunday.
The match, which could be the final Premier League Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, will now be rescheduled later this season.
Everton Statement on the Postponement
Everton confirmed that today’s fixture, originally set for 12:30pm GMT, was postponed following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park.
The meeting included officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council.
The decision was made due to safety concerns caused by strong wind gusts and the amber wind warning.
Everton apologised for the inconvenience and thanked supporters for their understanding, emphasizing that the safety of fans, staff, and players is the top priority.
Details about the rearranged fixture will be announced later, with all tickets from the original game remaining valid for the new date.
While the postponement is disappointing for fans, safety measures were deemed necessary given the severe weather conditions affecting the region.
