MOT View: Farke overlooks key player in confirmed Leeds XI vs Burnley

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev are set to continue their midfield partnership, having developed a strong connection since last season, despite some expectations for a new face in the lineup.

Farke has been full of praise for Japanese international Ao Tanaka, especially after his “near-perfect” performance during the international break against China [Football Zone].

Known for sticking with a consistent starting XI, Farke has made no changes to the lineup that secured a 2-0 victory over Hull City last month.

Illan Meslier remains in goal, with Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk, and Junior Firpo forming the defense.

Ampadu and Gruev anchor the midfield, while Brenden Aaronson, Manor Solomon, Wilfried Gnonto, and Mateo Joseph lead the attack.

Leeds United have taken eight points from their first four Championship matches, improving significantly after their opening-day 3-3 draw with Portsmouth and an early EFL Cup exit at the hands of Middlesbrough.

The team’s current form includes three consecutive clean sheets in the league, giving Farke little reason to alter the lineup.

However, the decision not to start Tanaka in the upcoming match against Burnley may be a missed opportunity.

The Japanese midfielder could offer much-needed creativity in the middle of the park and potentially help secure a victory over Scott Parker’s Clarets, particularly with Liam Cullen available on the bench.

While Tanaka may still be introduced as a late substitute, especially if Leeds are protecting a lead, Farke might regret not giving him a starting role where he could have had a greater impact from the outset.
