With the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Everton are beginning to take shape ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Following a much-needed squad overhaul at the end of last season, Everton are still active in the market. Reports suggest the Friedkin Group are not finished reinforcing the midfield.
Everton still seeking midfield reinforcements
Dewsbury-Hall is a quality addition — durable, industrious, and technically assured — but the departure of Abdoulaye Doucoure in June means more midfield depth is required.
One target is Southampton’s highly-rated teenager Tyler Dibling, who has been withdrawn from first-team training amid ongoing talks with Everton.
Moyes has already seen two bids for the 19-year-old — capable of operating centrally or on the wing — rejected.
A more experienced option is Aston Villa captain John McGinn, though Everton’s £18m offer for the 30-year-old has reportedly been turned down.
Instead, attention may turn to Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg. TEAMtalk claims Everton are exploring a potential move for the 18-year-old, one of England’s most promising young midfielders.
However, Sunderland value him at around £40m and are under no pressure to sell, so Everton are prepared to monitor him over the season before making a decisive move.
What Chris Rigg could offer Everton
Despite his youth, Rigg played a pivotal role in Sunderland’s promotion campaign last season, starting 36 Championship matches and displaying maturity beyond his years.
Like Dibling, Rigg boasts impressive tactical versatility, capable of excelling in multiple roles. Some even consider him the more dynamic of the two.
While he is yet to feature in the Premier League, his performances suggest he has the potential to thrive at the highest level.
Rigg combines ball-winning ability with progressive distribution. According to FBref, during the 2024/25 Championship season he ranked in the top 17% of his positional peers for successful take-ons and the top 18% for passes into the penalty area, underlining both his physicality and creativity.
Praised as a “phenomenal talent” by analyst Ben Mattinson, Rigg has been described as a technically gifted midfielder capable of producing moments of brilliance.
His composure on the ball, vision, and work rate make him an exciting long-term prospect.
Given that both Rigg and Dibling are valued highly despite their limited top-flight experience, Everton must weigh immediate needs against long-term gains.
With negotiations also ongoing with Manchester City for Jack Grealish, the urgency to sign Dibling has lessened somewhat.
If Rigg becomes available next summer, Everton could benefit from patience, potentially securing a player with the qualities to anchor their midfield for years to come.
