Gustavo Sara began his European journey in 2022, joining English Championship side Norwich City from Brazilian top-tier club São Paulo.

At Everton, Sara could potentially replace Abdoulaye Doucouré, who might be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Since David Moyes’ return in January, Doucouré has played a pivotal role in stabilising the team.

He’s helped Everton avoid relegation, losing just four of the first ten games under Moyes—against Villa, Liverpool, City, and Chelsea.

Doucouré also chipped in with three crucial goals during that stretch, including a dramatic equaliser against Manchester United in a 2-2 draw and the winning strike in a 1-0 victory over top-four hopefuls Nottingham Forest.

His celebration after that goal even hinted at a desire to extend his stay.

However, with his contract expiring this summer and no renewal in place, Doucouré’s five-year tenure at Goodison Park seems set to come to a close—an end that may feel both emotional and slightly unjust given his recent performances.

If he does depart, Everton are likely to bring in reinforcements, with Sara emerging as a leading candidate.

While not as physically imposing or defensively oriented as Doucouré, Sara offers superior technical quality.

Having already played in England, he could quickly adapt and make a strong impact should he return to British football.
