Wilfred Ndidi is set to reaffirm his commitment to Leicester City by signing a new contract, delivering a significant transfer setback to Everton, according to sources at Football Insider.
In the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke disclosed that Ndidi will reject interest from other Premier League clubs and teams across Europe to stay with Leicester. This decision is seen as a major boost for manager Steve Cooper, given Ndidi’s extensive experience and high quality as a central midfielder.
Everton, who had expressed interest in signing the 27-year-old, will be disappointed by his decision to stay with Leicester. Ndidi’s new contract also allows Leicester to allocate their limited resources to strengthen other areas of the team.
Ndidi joined Leicester City from Genk in 2016 for £17 million and played a key role in the squad that won the FA Cup in 2022. Since his arrival, he has made 273 appearances for the Foxes, including 32 in the Championship last season when Leicester won the title.
With Ndidi’s contract having expired at the end of June, it initially seemed his tenure at King Power Stadium might be over, especially given the high interest in him. However, his decision to stay commits him to the newly promoted Premier League club, where he will aim to help them maintain their top-flight status next season.
Leicester still intends to sign a new central midfielder this summer, but Ndidi’s contract extension has reduced the urgency of this need. The club’s transfer budget is constrained by profit and sustainability regulations. Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has warned that Leicester could face a 12-point deduction due to these financial restrictions.
