Exclusive: Everton Lead Newcastle in Race to Sign ‘Exceptional’ £25m Forward This Summer
As the transfer window heats up, Everton reportedly lead Newcastle United in the race for an attacking talent.
With speculation that Sean Dyche could still lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, it’s no surprise that Everton might be seeking a new forward to partner with Iliman Ndiaye.
Similarly, Newcastle United aim to add a right-winger capable of completing Eddie Howe’s front three. Miguel Almiron’s form declined as the season progressed, and Howe is still searching for the perfect player to complement both Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.
TBR Football now confirms that Everton are leading the race ahead of Newcastle to sign Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto. TBR understands that Gnonto has made it clear to Leeds that he wants to leave the club this summer and return to the Premier League. Negotiations for a new deal at Elland Road stalled after Daniel Farke’s failure to secure promotion back to the top flight.
Everton are back in talks with Leeds over a deal for Wilfried Gnonto. TBR also reports interest from Serie A, with Cesc Fabregas keen to take the ‘exceptional’ forward to newly-promoted Como, and Jose Mourinho’s former side Roma also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old.
However, Premier League interest in Gnonto is strong, with long-term admirers Everton leading the way. Everton have a good relationship with Leeds after their dealings over Jack Harrison in the past 12 months. Alongside Everton, West Ham United, Newcastle, Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Nottingham Forest are also interested in a deal.
Leeds, having already allowed Archie Gray to leave the club this summer, are ready to sanction Gnonto’s exit as well, with Glen Kamara’s move to Rennes nearly finalized. Gnonto, who scored eight goals in his 36 Championship appearances last season, is thought to have a price tag of around £25m.
It’s easy to see why Dyche would want to sign a winger like Gnonto, who works diligently in defense. Along with pursuing Gnonto, it seems Everton are targeting a midfield signing using their Amadou Onana funds.
