Everton’s focus has shifted towards pursuing Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United, according to sources cited by Football Insider.
Having recently secured Aston Villa midfielder Tim Iroegbunam’s signature, Everton now seek to bolster their attacking options with a forward capable of adding cutting edge to their squad.
Sean Dyche’s team has already permitted the departure of 21-year-old forward Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa. Additionally, Football Insider reported on Sunday (23 June) that Newcastle United are in advanced discussions to acquire Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Last summer (2023), Everton came close to acquiring 20-year-old Gnonto and have since closely monitored his development at Leeds United.
Reports suggest that Everton is preparing to approach the Italian international, who is eager to move on following Leeds’ failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League. Leeds fell short in the playoff final against Southampton last month (26 May), where Gnonto started and made 26 appearances, starting in 44 games and contributing nine goals and three assists across all competitions last season under Daniel Farke.
Gnonto, known for his versatility across the forward positions, remains under contract with Leeds until June 2027.
Alongside their pursuit of Gnonto, Everton is on the verge of securing another loan deal for Jack Harrison from Leeds United, as reported last week (20 June) by Football Insider.
Farke’s team is expected to offload several stars this summer, including Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, after missing out on Premier League promotion.
