In an exclusive interview with Everton.News, Bailey shared his thoughts on potential transfers before the summer window closes and the current state of the squad.
Taking a break from transfer rumors, he highlighted the impressive acquisition of Lindstrom, forecasting a significant impact from the new signing.
Bailey stated, “Jesper Lindstrom is one of my favorite signings. I think he’s a superb player.
The only regret for Everton might be not making it a mandatory option to buy because I think Lindstrom will perform so well that Everton might struggle to retain him. It’s a good problem to have.
I believe Lindstrom will be one of the stories of the season.”
As Bailey mentioned, Everton has an optional buy clause in Lindstrom’s loan deal, which means they would need to pay £19 million next summer if he excels.
However, Bailey did express a concern regarding manager Sean Dyche’s decision to play Lindstrom out wide during pre-season while preferring Jack Harrison for the central role.
This move has been criticized, with Danish football expert Toke Møller Theilade suggesting that Lindstrom is not suited to the winger position. According to Theilade, “Napoli bought him to play wide, which is just not his position.
He isn’t fast enough or a good enough dribbler to play effectively as a winger.
He needs to play centrally to utilize his strengths and contribute most effectively to the team.”
With Iliman Ndiaye and Abdoulaye Doucoure competing for the central spot behind the striker, there is already fierce competition for Lindstrom’s preferred position.
Meanwhile, Dwight McNeil and Harrison will contend for the wide spots.
Dyche will need to quickly identify where the Denmark international shines brightest and hope Lindstrom lives up to Bailey’s high expectations.
