Exclusive: Newcastle step up efforts to sign Everton player.

Newcastle United have identified 28-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin as one of their top two targets to replace Callum Wilson, whose contract expires this June.

The Magpies have already initiated contact with Calvert-Lewin’s representatives to express their interest.

Calvert-Lewin, who has been with Everton since 2016, has turned down multiple contract extension offers and is expected to leave on a free transfer.

This season, he has recorded three goals and two assists in 22 Premier League appearances but has been out with a hamstring injury since early February.

Over his Everton career, he has made 269 appearances, scoring 71 goals and registering 20 assists. He also represented England between 2020 and 2021.

Wilson, 33, will depart St James’ Park at the end of the season, having managed just one goal in 14 appearances amid ongoing injury concerns.

In other news, Newcastle are among several clubs monitoring Angers goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

As reported by Football Insider on 9 April, the Magpies, alongside Wolves and Brentford, scouted Fofana last weekend.

Widely considered one of Europe’s top young goalkeepers, Fofana currently boasts the best post-shot expected goals (PSxG) record among all keepers in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

His contract with Angers enters its final year this summer, attracting attention from multiple clubs in Spain, Germany, and Italy.

Newcastle’s recruitment drive reflects their ambition to reinforce key positions ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
