Exclusive: Tottenham in Talks to Sign England Defender Criticized by Gareth Southgate

The England international Fikayo Tomori has several options across Europe as he contemplates his future at AC Milan.

The former Chelsea defender is reportedly evaluating his next steps after his situation at the San Siro has become uncertain.

Tomori’s name has been linked to numerous clubs recently, with several Premier League sides expressing strong interest in the 27-year-old.

Among them, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have held discussions regarding a potential move, according to TBR Football’s chief correspondent, Graeme Bailey.

Brighton, Brentford, and West Ham are also known to admire the player.

Both Ange Postecoglou and Eddie Howe are keen on strengthening their defensive lines during the winter transfer window, and Tomori is a viable option they are considering.

His lack of playing time at Milan has prompted this speculation, as the defender has only managed 11 minutes of Serie A action since October 19.

However, the arrival of new manager Sergio Conceição could potentially alter his role at the club.

Interest in Tomori is not limited to England; Serie A rivals Napoli and Juventus are closely monitoring his situation.

Juventus, in particular, are eyeing reinforcements for their central defense in January.

They have already made an approach for Benfica’s Antonio Silva and are considering a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

Additionally, Feyenoord’s David Hancko, who has also been linked with Tottenham, is on their radar.

Tomori has had a largely successful stint in Italy, winning the Serie A title with AC Milan in 2022.

However, this season has been challenging, with the Rossoneri struggling in eighth place and Tomori losing his spot in the starting lineup.

Limited game time has hindered his efforts to secure a place in the England squad under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Previously, former England manager Gareth Southgate expressed doubts about Tomori, stating in March 2023: “There have been quite a few errors [from him] this season.

The great thing is he is playing at a big club with high expectations, but we have one or two players just ahead of him.”

Tomori will likely prioritize consistent playing opportunities as he seeks to revive his international career and prove himself at the highest level.
