West Ham United's Search for a New Striker Continues into Pre-Season as They Evaluate Their Options
Julen Lopetegui has been active in the market since joining West Ham at the London Stadium earlier this summer. West Ham has already signed three new players, with Max Kilman’s big-money move being the standout. However, the search for a new striker continues in East London.
Serhou Guirassy has completed his €17.5m (around £15m) move from Stuttgart to Borussia Dortmund, but TBR Football understands that West Ham made a late attempt to bring him to the Premier League. Guirassy had an impressive 2023/24 season with VfB Stuttgart, scoring 30 goals across all competitions. Only Harry Kane outscored him in the Bundesliga, leading to his transfer to Borussia Dortmund.
Medical tests revealed some issues, causing the move to stall last week. At this point, TBR reports that West Ham held talks with Guirassy’s representatives. Dortmund, aware of the rival interest from England, decided to finalize the transfer for the Guinea international.
West Ham has other striker options to consider. Among the names linked with a move to the London Stadium is Alexander Sorloth, who could make a return to the Premier League. Additionally, West Ham is reportedly interested in current Premier League players like Callum Wilson. There are also claims that West Ham has contacted Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin about a potential transfer.
With only a few days remaining before the Hammers depart for their pre-season games in the United States, resolving the striker situation is becoming increasingly urgent.
