West Ham United are reportedly considering terminating Igor Julio’s loan spell as they look to free up space to complete a double loan swoop for Antonin Kinsky and Axel Disasi, according to Football.London journalist Ryan Taylor.
The Hammers are currently locked in a fierce relegation scrap and sit seven points below the safety line, trailing Nottingham Forest despite securing consecutive victories against Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland in their most recent outings.
Those wins have offered renewed belief, but the club’s hierarchy are aware that further reinforcements may be required if West Ham are to preserve their Premier League status.
Determined to support the manager during this critical period, the board have already sanctioned moves for Taty Castellanos and Pablo, with plans continuing to take shape ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
West Ham are now actively exploring ways to strengthen multiple areas of the squad, even if it means making tough decisions regarding current loanees.
One such decision concerns Igor Julio. The defender, once labelled as having “something special” by former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, arrived on loan from the Seagulls on deadline day.
However, his involvement has been minimal following Graham Potter’s dismissal, and he has not featured under Nuno since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth back in November.
As a result, West Ham are keen to end Julio’s loan prematurely and return him to Brighton to make room for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi.
There is a complication, though, as Julio has already represented both Brighton and West Ham this season, preventing him from joining another club in the same calendar.
Brazilian side Palmeiras are said to be interested, but Brighton would need to agree to any early termination.
West Ham’s interest in Disasi remains strong, with the Chelsea outcast viewed as a major upgrade at the back.
The French defender spent the latter half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he impressed in both the Champions League and against elite Premier League opposition.
However, having not played a single minute this campaign, questions remain over how quickly he could rediscover that form.
Alongside Disasi, the Hammers are also pushing to sign Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky on loan to reinforce their options between the posts.
With only two domestic loan slots available, Julio’s departure is seen as crucial unless one of the proposed deals is converted into a permanent transfer.
Ultimately, Julio appears to be surplus to requirements under Nuno, and prioritising players the manager genuinely wants could prove decisive.
Successfully completing these moves may well be the difference between relegation and survival for West Ham this season.
