Leeds United Eye Sean Longstaff After Sealing Lukas Nmecha Signing club told £10m is enough to land “unbelievable” Newcastle midfielder
Leeds United’s summer recruitment is off to a swift start, with the club officially confirming their first signing just days after the transfer window reopened.
The Whites announced that German international Lukas Nmecha will be joining the club, becoming their first addition of the window.
The 25-year-old striker has agreed to a two-year contract and will link up with the squad on July 1st, once his deal with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg expires.
Nmecha is no stranger to English football, having come through Manchester City’s academy and previously enjoyed loan spells at Preston North End and Middlesbrough.
Speaking to the club’s media team, Nmecha expressed his excitement about the move:
“It’s just a great challenge, and I’m really excited to get to know the team. I’ve spoken with the manager many times, and I’m looking forward to playing the style of football they played last season.
I saw how dominant they were in terms of possession and goals, and that really appeals to me as an attacking player.”
He added:
“Obviously, in the Premier League, you can’t dominate every game, but I know the manager wants to play good possession-based football — something I enjoy and thrive on.
I wish we could start already, but now it’s time to prepare and get ready for the season ahead.”
With Nmecha secured, Leeds’ ownership group, 49ers Enterprises, is now focusing on strengthening the midfield.
According to Football Insider, Leeds have been informed that Newcastle United will accept an offer of just £10 million for midfielder Sean Longstaff.
The 26-year-old, who earns around £50,000 a week, is entering the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, and Newcastle are open to selling him this summer.
Leeds had previously been linked with a double swoop for Longstaff and striker Callum Wilson.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is eager to inject Premier League experience into his squad following their promotion, and Longstaff fits the bill.
However, Leeds may face competition from Everton, now managed by David Moyes, who are also showing strong interest in the midfielder.
Longstaff, praised as “unbelievable” by Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, has Champions League credentials, having played a key role in Newcastle’s return to Europe.
He made five appearances in the competition last season, including a goal in a memorable 4-1 win over PSG.
