ExWHUEmployee: West Ham Free Transfer Now ‘5% Likely’ After Latest Update

West Ham Likely to Pass on Signing John Egan on a Free Transfer, Reports ExWHUEmployee

According to West Ham Way [10 September], although 31-year-old John Egan was expected to be offered a short-term contract, it now seems that Kaelen Casey may be trusted to step up instead.

Egan played 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge last week, but it appears the Hammers have decided against signing the former Sheffield United centre-back.

While signing Egan wouldn’t significantly impact the club’s finances, West Ham seems to prefer other options.

Egan made only six Premier League appearances for Sheffield United last season, and with fans eager for manager Julen Lopetegui to promote academy graduates, it looks like that wish will be fulfilled.

Kaelen Casey, a promising talent from the academy, is poised to make his mark after having just one senior appearance last season.

Following the path of George Earthy, who successfully transitioned from the academy to the first team, Casey could be next in line.

With the departures of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd, Lopetegui is left with Konstantinos Mavropanos, Max Kilman, and Jean-Clair Todibo, making it clear that adding another defender is crucial for the season ahead.
