Fabrizio Romano Confirms Leeds United Transfer Interest, Predicts Swift Move
Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United Aiming to Quickly Secure Replacement for Crysencio Summerville
Leeds United are now in the market for a new winger after losing their star player Summerville to West Ham United over the weekend.
Summerville’s transfer to the capital, in a deal worth over £25 million, has left a significant gap in Daniel Farke’s squad.
The 22-year-old was named the Championship’s Player of the Season for 2023/24, contributing 31 goals across all competitions.
Anticipating Summerville’s departure, Leeds had already identified potential replacements. Top of their shortlist are Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Norwich City’s Jonathan Rowe.
Leeds have been in the race to sign Rak-Sakyi for several weeks, facing competition from Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers.
However, Leeds will reportedly pursue Rak-Sakyi only if a move for Rowe falls through, having already had a £7 million bid for Rowe rejected by Norwich.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Leeds’ interest in Rowe, describing it as a ‘concrete possibility.’ Romano expects Leeds to quickly secure a replacement for Summerville, whether it’s Rowe or another target.
He said: “Yeah, he’s a possibility. It’s true that his name is one of the ones they are considering internally.
At the moment, I’m told that still nothing is close to being done, but it’s a concrete possibility. For sure, they will replace Summerville.
They are assessing all the options, but I think Leeds will be quite fast on this one, also because they made good money with Summerville and also with Archie Gray, so they have some money to invest, and they will surely do that.”
Rowe, who has previously commented on the atmosphere at Elland Road, may be keen on the move. He played at Elland Road earlier in his career and was impressed by the crowd.
Rowe said: “Elland Road had the most noise I can remember. A crazy game. Even though we lost I was just in awe of the atmosphere. I couldn’t believe that this was what my dream is.
Even though we lost I was like, ‘wow’. Imagine being on the other side of that, I feel like that’s the feeling I always chase.
These types of moments keep you motivated and hungry to make yourself feel that emotion in the future.”
To secure Rowe, Leeds will need to agree on a fee with Norwich, which may not be easy, according to Sky Sports’ Tim Thornton.
Nevertheless, with the funds from Summerville’s sale, Leeds are in a strong position to invest in their next key player.
