Tottenham have announced significant changes to Ange Postecoglou’s coaching staff for the 2024/25 Premier League season.
The club sought reinforcements after Chris Davies left earlier this month to become manager of relegated Birmingham City in League One. Matt Wells, a former academy player and Under-18s coach, has been appointed as the senior assistant to head coach Postecoglou. Wells, who returned to Tottenham last year after working with ex-Spurs midfielder Scott Parker at Fulham, Bournemouth, and Club Brugge, initially came back in April 2023 to assist Ryan Mason, who was interim head coach following the departure of Antonio Conte’s assistant, Cristian Stellini. Wells continued under Postecoglou and now replaces Davies, who had joined last summer as Postecoglou’s top assistant but left for Birmingham City in June after previously resisting interest from Swansea.
In addition to promoting Wells, Tottenham have added Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo to their backroom staff as assistants to Postecoglou. Montgomery, a former Scotland Under-21 international, joins after being sacked as manager of Scottish Premiership club Hibernian last month following an eight-month tenure. The 42-year-old won the A-League title with Central Coast Mariners both as a player and manager, following a long spell at Sheffield United.
Portuguese coach Raimundo worked closely with Montgomery at both Hibernian and Central Coast Mariners. He has also had roles at the Benfica academy and worked in Senegal, Brazil, Canada, and Austria.
