Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly targeting Bilal El Khannouss as they search for a creative replacement for Florian Wirtz, who recently joined Liverpool in a £100 million deal.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leverkusen have renewed their interest in El Khannouss, having previously tracked him last summer before he left Genk for Leicester City.

With Wirtz gone, Leverkusen are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign and domestic title challenge.

Leicester, relegated to the Championship, may be open to a sale, though they would only receive a limited return.

Reports suggest they’ve set a €26 million (£22m) asking price for the Moroccan, which would represent just a £7 million gain under Profit and Sustainability Rules due to his current book value of £15 million. He joined Leicester last summer in a £20 million deal on a four-year contract.

Despite Leicester’s relegation, El Khannouss impressed in the Premier League, showcasing his technical ability, sharp vision, and ball control in the number 10 role.

While he looked comfortable against top-flight opposition, his output remains an area for improvement—he managed just two goals and three assists across the campaign.

Should he depart, Leicester may look to bring in a replacement playmaker. Facundo Buonanotte has returned to Brighton after his loan, leaving a gap in the squad.

Jordan Ayew could be an internal solution, while young talent Will Alves, who spent time at Cardiff, is also back in the mix.

El Khannouss, still only 21, has shown plenty of promise and could be a valuable addition for Leverkusen as they look to maintain their upward trajectory and remain competitive in Europe and the Bundesliga.
