Fabrizio Romano: Leicester City receive bids for 23-year-old with limited game time under Van Nistelrooy

Leicester City have received transfer offers exceeding £4 million for one of their players as the transfer deadline approaches, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The January transfer window has been relatively quiet for Leicester City. While they’ve secured the signing of Woyo Coulibaly, further additions have been limited.

Recently, the Foxes sold Tom Cannon to Sheffield United for a significant fee, which could provide the financial flexibility needed to make new signings.

Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has confirmed the club is exploring options to strengthen the squad. He stated:

“We are looking at options within the possibility to strengthen the squad, and also this deal with Tom [Cannon] is part of that situation.

So, we are addressing that and are looking at players to strengthen the team within the possibilities that are there at the moment.”

Cannon’s move to Bramall Lane has created additional funds, and Leicester have reportedly made a move for AC Milan defender Strahinja Pavlovic.

The 6’4″ centre-back has struggled to make an impact since joining Milan in the summer.

With Leicester’s defensive struggles this season, van Nistelrooy will hope that Pavlovic can provide the solidity they’ve been lacking.

Leicester Receive £4m+ Transfer Offer for Luke Thomas

While incoming transfers are a priority, another departure could be on the horizon.

Romano has reported that Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have made “multiple offers” for Leicester’s Luke Thomas, valued at around €5 million (£4.2m).

However, Leicester are yet to be convinced by these offers and are not currently prepared to sell the defender.

Thomas, 23, is a product of Leicester’s academy and has made 90 appearances for the first team across various competitions.

Despite his potential, he has only featured twice in the Premier League this season, playing the full 90 minutes against Brentford in November and Aston Villa earlier this month. Since then, he hasn’t appeared under van Nistelrooy.

With his contract running until 2026, a transfer this month could be beneficial for both the player and the club.

Thomas has previously had loan spells at Sheffield United and Middlesbrough but has struggled to cement a place at Leicester.

This contrasts with his earlier performances under former manager Brendan Rodgers, who praised Thomas’ potential and contributions.

Reflecting on the defender’s display in a Carabao Cup match against Liverpool, Rodgers said:

“I said to him afterwards that he was brilliant during the game. He’s developing so well. It’s another great experience for him.

The atmosphere was great, as it always is at Anfield. It was a really good game.

It was unfortunate for him to miss the penalty, but in the game, he was exceptional. He’s a tough boy, and he will move on.”

Although Thomas showed promise under Rodgers, his recent lack of game time suggests a move to Hoffenheim could offer him a fresh start and regular playing opportunities.

For Leicester, offloading him could provide the resources to strengthen the squad as they look to improve their performances for the remainder of the season.
