Russell Martin has already secured seven new signings as Rangers look to reshape their squad under the new ownership of 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh.

With further additions expected in the coming weeks, the ultimate ambition is clear: to dethrone Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, not everyone is convinced by the current recruitment strategy.

Former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson has expressed doubts about the quality and readiness of the summer arrivals.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson acknowledged that while some promising players have joined, they may not be of the calibre required to win the title.

“Some decent players have been brought in,” he said. “But if you’re going to take the title from Celtic, then you need a better class of footballer.”

Ferguson highlighted concerns over the number of young, unproven players being brought in and their ability to handle the pressure of playing for a club of Rangers’ stature.

“You just don’t know how the youngsters will cope with the atmosphere,” he said. “A marquee signing—an experienced player—can deal with that.

But we don’t know much about these young lads. On paper, it looks decent, but ‘decent’ won’t win the title back from Celtic. Top-class players are needed.”

Ferguson also addressed speculation linking veteran striker Jamie Vardy with a move to Ibrox.

Despite the 38-year-old’s impressive CV, which includes a Premier League title and FA Cup win with Leicester as well as international experience with England, Ferguson is not convinced.

“Most of the time Rangers face teams sitting deep in a low block, and that doesn’t suit Vardy’s style,” he said.

“He’s still a very good player, but I don’t think he fits Rangers right now. It’s easy for fans to get excited when a big name like Vardy is mentioned, but it’s a no from me.”

Rangers have also been linked with experienced defender Conor Coady, although that deal has yet to materialise.

Coady recently joined Leicester’s pre-season camp in Austria, casting doubt over any imminent move to Ibrox.
