Wanya Marcal is hoping to reestablish himself at Leicester City after making his long-awaited return from injury while on loan at De Graafschap.
After a challenging, injury-plagued spell in the Netherlands, Marcal is finally fit again and has featured in his first two matches of 2025.
The winger made an impact as a substitute against TOP Oss, helping De Graafschap secure their fourth consecutive victory.
His performance earned him a starting spot in the following match against MVV Maastricht, though the team had to settle for a goalless draw.
With just seven games remaining in the Dutch second tier, the race for promotion is heating up.
De Graafschap currently sit sixth in the table, five points off the automatic promotion spots but holding a six-point cushion inside the play-off zone.
Marcal has managed only seven appearances for his loan club so far.
His time in the Netherlands started with immediate injury setbacks, leading to a return to Leicester’s Seagrave training base for rehabilitation.
The 22-year-old briefly enjoyed a five-game run in December before another injury sidelined him again.
Now, with a new manager at De Graafschap—former Brentford boss Marinus Dijkhuizen—Marcal has a fresh opportunity to make his mark.
If De Graafschap secure a play-off spot, the possibility of three two-legged ties could provide Marcal with valuable game time before his return to Leicester in the summer.

Last season under Enzo Maresca, Marcal made eight senior appearances for Leicester, scoring his first goal against Cardiff and standing out in the FA Cup win over Bournemouth.
