Antonio Could Earn a West Ham Contract Extension
The former Nottingham Forest forward is working hard to make a comeback under Graham Potter before the season concludes.
His international manager, Steve McClaren, recently provided an update during the latest international break.
McClaren stated: “He [Antonio] is confident he’ll be back and is targeting the summer or our qualifying games in September, October, and November.”
If Antonio returns as planned, West Ham could offer him a new deal. Former Brentford and Leicester City boss Martin Allen has outlined the potential challenges in negotiating his contract.
Speaking to West Ham Zone, Allen explained: “I think it will be a very complicated contract.
I’d offer him one more year, with an option for another if he meets certain conditions.
If he starts ten games, his wages could rise back to his current high level.
But before committing to that, the club will want to see if he can perform at his previous standard.”
He continued: “It has to be an incentive-based contract. I’d definitely give him one year on a lower salary, allowing him time to regain full fitness before returning to his usual pay.”
