Everton Could Owe £15 Million if Alcaraz Starts Four More Matches in Final 11 Games
Alcaraz’s Everton Loan Deal and Future Prospects
Carlos Alcaraz joined Everton on loan from Flamengo during the winter transfer window, with an obligation for the Toffees to make the deal permanent if he starts at least six games or plays a minimum of 45 minutes in those matches.
So far, the Argentine midfielder has made five appearances across all competitions for Everton but has only met the stated criteria twice.
Former Flamengo VP Criticizes Everton Agreement
Following Alcaraz’s full 90-minute performance in Everton’s 1-1 draw against Brentford on 26 February, Brazilian outlet GE Globo reported that he has reached just 30% of the playing time required to trigger the £15 million transfer, plus an additional £3 million in potential add-ons.
Reacting to the report, former Flamengo vice president Marcos Braz criticized the deal, suggesting that the Brazilian club is naive to believe Alcaraz will meet the target.
However, he also claimed that Everton would still go through with the purchase.
“Haven’t they realized? He hasn’t, and won’t, reach the target,” Braz posted on X on 28 February.
“The English club will exercise the purchase anyway. That’s already the case.”
Despite this, Braz hinted that Everton will likely negotiate a significantly lower transfer fee.
“It will not yield Flamengo anywhere near the value stated in the article,” he added.
Alcaraz Proving His Worth at Everton
Alcaraz was Everton’s sole signing in the winter transfer window, with manager David Moyes opting to be cautious with the club’s limited budget.
However, the 22-year-old has quickly made an impact, notably scoring a goal and providing an assist in Everton’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on 15 February—his first start for the club.
Although his appearances have been limited, Alcaraz appears to be a valuable asset for the squad.
Given his performances, Everton may still pursue a permanent transfer even if he falls short of the required appearances.
As Braz suggested, the Merseyside club could also try to negotiate a lower fee ahead of the summer.
For now, Alcaraz will focus on helping Everton return to winning ways when they take on Wolves at Molineux Stadium on 8 March.
