With the opening day of the Premier League season just over a week away, Leicester City are reportedly preparing to make an official offer for a player well-acquainted with England’s top flight.

Although Leicester City hasn’t spent lavishly this summer, they have welcomed several reinforcements.
New arrivals such as Issahaku Fatawu, Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, and Bobby De Cordova-Reid have bolstered Steve Cooper’s squad.

Despite this, the Foxes are still eyeing a statement signing before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

According to De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, Leicester is set to make an official offer to sign Steven Bergwijn from Ajax. The deal could be worth close to €20 million (£17 million).
However, negotiations might prove challenging, as Leicester is reportedly unwilling to exceed this amount. Bergwijn currently earns £75,000 a week in the Eredivisie.
Bergwijn is already a familiar name to Premier League fans, having played for Tottenham Hotspur from 2020 to 2022.
During his time at Spurs, he demonstrated his quality with a dramatic brace in a 3-2 victory over Leicester.
If Bergwijn joins the Foxes this summer, he will have a point to prove.

While Bergwijn only showed glimpses of his best form at Spurs, a move to Leicester could offer him a chance to prove himself in the Premier League. For £17 million, he would need to make an immediate impact.
His performance last season suggests he is capable, having scored 13 goals and provided five assists in all competitions.
Former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho praised Bergwijn after he scored a debut winner against Manchester City. Mourinho said via TNT Sports, “The goal was a great goal and so important for us.
(It was) the icing on the cake of a very good performance. Independent of the goal, his performance was very good, very solid, very mature.”
At 26 years old, Bergwijn is now an experienced player. This summer, he could have the opportunity to become a key figure at Leicester City.
