Ruben Amorim Highlights Leicester City Weakness Man United Exploited Amid Offside Goal Controversy

Ruben Amorim sympathized with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Leicester City after Harry Maguire’s controversial late winner in the FA Cup.

Manchester United’s manager admitted his team had a stroke of luck as Maguire’s 93rd-minute header, which replays confirmed was offside, was allowed to stand due to the absence of VAR.

Van Nistelrooy was frustrated, calling the decision “unacceptable.”

Amorim understood his counterpart’s frustration and emphasized the importance of VAR in football.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, he said, “Sometimes we need a bit of luck, and today we had it. With VAR, that goal wouldn’t have counted. It’s crucial to have it for fairness.

Losing in the last minute due to an offside is tough, but sometimes luck goes your way.”

United had controlled the final 30 minutes, equalizing through Joshua Zirkzee’s rebound before pushing for a winner.

The key difference came from Alejandro Garnacho, who was introduced at halftime and used his pace and directness to trouble Leicester’s defense, especially on the right flank.

The young Argentinian winger nearly scored, only for Caleb Okoli to clear off the line.

He also played a crucial role in Zirkzee’s goal. Amorim noted that Garnacho exploited James Justin’s fatigue late in the game.

“He changed the game today with his runs behind,” Amorim said. “You could see the opponent tiring—Justin struggled, not in the first half but later, to contain Garnacho in one-on-one situations. We’re very happy with him.

He made a big impact and helped us turn the game around.”
