Football journalist Henry Winter stressed the importance of this during a live appearance on talkSPORT (12 December, 10:50am), particularly after the surprising sacking of Sean Dyche just hours before an FA Cup match.
“Overall, probably not [a surprise] in terms of the fans’ reaction,” Winter noted.
“Bournemouth supporters were taunting Everton fans, chanting about the team’s lackluster performances.
With new ownership under the Friedkin Group, changes were inevitable.
Dyche might have kept them up, but the team’s disappointing form and the urgent need for a striker made his position vulnerable.”
Winter also highlighted Everton’s striker woes, saying: “Broja is injured, Beto hasn’t performed well enough, and while Calvert-Lewin is a fantastic player, his injury record is concerning. There has to be some sympathy for Dyche.”
As the January transfer window approaches, it’s clear that David Moyes must prioritize signing a striker.
Among Everton’s pressing needs, improving the attacking line is the most critical. Currently, Beto is one of the few available number nines at the club.
Although he was previously linked with a return to Italy, that move now appears off the table.
However, his lackluster performances this season raise doubts about his ability to lead the line effectively.
Potential signings like Jaden Philogene and Ernest Nuamah have been mentioned in connection with a move to Goodison Park.
Yet, neither deal seems likely to materialize, leaving Everton’s options increasingly limited.
If Moyes fails to bring in a new striker during the January window, the club’s chances of avoiding relegation appear slim.
