‘He’s Electric’: Tim Howard Praises Everton’s Potential Transfer Target

Philogene, who joined Aston Villa in 2018 from the Pro:Direct Academy in London, has gained experience through loan spells at Stoke City and Cardiff City before moving to Hull City permanently.

After impressing at Hull, Villa utilized a first-refusal clause to bring him back for approximately £13.5 million, despite Ipswich Town’s interest.

However, Philogene has struggled for game time this season, making him a candidate for a loan move.

Former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has spoken highly of Philogene.

In July 2023, Howard stated (via Sky Sports): “If [Unai] Emery wants my opinion, this kid is ready.

He’s electric, fun to watch, and always on the front foot.

Plus, he’s willing to do the dirty work, tracking back and supporting defensively. That’s exactly what you want from a young player.”

Philogene’s mix of attacking flair and defensive commitment could make him a valuable asset for Dyche.

Despite limited minutes this season—most of his 15 appearances have come off the bench—his track record is promising.

He netted 12 goals during his loan stint at Hull last term, showcasing an eye for goal that Everton desperately needs.

However, signing Philogene could present logistical challenges.

Everton’s two domestic loan spots are currently occupied by Jack Harrison and Armando Broja.

While Leeds United reportedly cannot recall Harrison this month, there may still be room for negotiation.

The possibility of freeing up a loan slot through a compensation package with Leeds could open the door for Philogene’s arrival.

Beyond Philogene, Everton are also linked with other attacking options, including Yunus Akgun from Galatasaray and Rayan Cherki of Lyon.

The club’s recent dealings with Lyon over Orel Mangala suggest that a move for Cherki might not be entirely out of reach.
