Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Nuno confirmed that Füllkrug is nearing a return but refused to give a definite timeline. “My job is to coach the players,” he explained.
“After we arrived, Niclas played the first two games, and then unfortunately got injured. Now he’s coming back, and when he’s fully fit, he’ll be another really good option for the team.”
Since completing his £27 million move from Borussia Dortmund, Füllkrug has scored just three goals in claret and blue and missed 31 games for club and country due to injury setbacks.
His time in East London has been marred by fitness problems, with his agent recently admitting the transfer “didn’t work out.”
Amid growing speculation over a potential January exit, West Ham will be desperate for the striker to stay fit and rediscover form — otherwise, the club’s hopes of salvaging any value from his transfer could quickly fade.
