‘Fantastic Addition’: West Ham Encouraged to Sign Striker Graham Potter Praised as ‘Unbelievable’ Ahead of Summer Free Agency

West Ham United are facing a potential shortage of attacking options as they look ahead to the summer transfer window.

With Danny Ings and possibly Michail Antonio nearing the end of their contracts, the club is expected to be in the market for reinforcements.

Although West Ham secured the services of Niclas Füllkrug last summer, the German forward has struggled with injuries throughout the current campaign.

As a result, incoming manager Graham Potter could be inclined to explore additional options to provide cover in the striker position.

Former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has thrown an interesting name into the mix—Jamie Vardy.

Deeney believes that West Ham should consider signing the experienced Leicester City striker, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Deeney expressed his admiration for Vardy and suggested he could be a valuable asset for West Ham or Everton.

“It’s a bit of a gamble when you factor in his age and potential wage demands,” Deeney acknowledged.

“But Jamie Vardy is in a great position because there are so few traditional number nines left, especially in the Premier League.

“I could really see him fitting in well at a club like West Ham or Everton.”

Deeney described Vardy as the kind of player that fans and teammates appreciate for his relentless playing style and attitude on the pitch.

“Jamie is the type of guy you can’t stand when you’re playing against him, but you’d love him on your team,” he added.

“He does the dirty work, makes the runs, and always puts defenders under pressure.”

Using West Ham as an example, Deeney suggested Vardy could serve as a strong backup or even a rotation option alongside Füllkrug or any new striker the Hammers might bring in.

“With injuries and rotation inevitable across a long season, having someone like Vardy in your squad would be a huge boost.

He brings experience and a winning mentality,” said Deeney.

“He’s won the Premier League, played in Europe, and represented England—it would be a fantastic addition to any team.”

Despite being 37, Deeney emphasized that Vardy still shows few signs of decline.

“He hasn’t lost his pace, and as long as he has that, he remains a real threat. I think he’d be an excellent signing.”

Meanwhile, West Ham boss Graham Potter also praised Vardy earlier this year when asked to compare him to West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen, another player who rose through the non-league ranks.

During a Premier League fixture between West Ham and Leicester in February, Potter was questioned about the two players’ similar career trajectories.

“I don’t think it’s fair to either of them to draw comparisons,” Potter told the Leicester Mercury. “Jamie Vardy is one of a kind.

He’s been incredible in terms of what he’s achieved.”

Potter continued, “His goal record, the Premier League title, the FA Cup win—it’s an unbelievable story.

From non-league football to winning the biggest prizes in English football, he’s been absolutely fantastic.”
