Joelinton has made it clear that he is hungry for further success at Newcastle United after getting a taste of silverware with last season’s Carabao Cup triumph.

Although Dan Burn officially collected the man-of-the-match award at Wembley, plenty of supporters believed the Brazilian midfielder was Newcastle’s standout performer in the victory over Liverpool.

For Joelinton, however, individual recognition was secondary, as lifting the trophy marked a moment of redemption in his journey at St James’ Park.

The Magpies paid a club-record £40million to bring Joelinton to Tyneside, initially deploying him as a centre-forward and handing him the iconic number nine shirt.

Expectations were enormous, but it was only after Eddie Howe reimagined him as a dominant midfield force that fans truly began to appreciate his qualities and commitment.

‘I want more trophies’ – Joelinton

Speaking to Newcastle’s official website, Joelinton, who will enter the final two years of his contract this summer, outlined his ambition to keep winning in black and white.

“I want to win more trophies at Newcastle,” he said. “That is my dream and my goal.

“Winning the Carabao Cup last season was an incredible feeling, but now we want more.

I want my name to be part of the club’s history, helping Newcastle grow and become one of the best teams in the world.

“I arrived here very young, and now I’m almost 30. So much has happened during my time here.

I’ve had two more children, and my daughter was born here, so the club has given me so much.

I love this club and I hope I can continue doing well here. My wife has been important to me, supporting me through both good and bad moments. She is my best friend.

“The gaffer has helped me massively since he came in.

He changed my position and helped me develop, not only as a footballer but also as a person. I’m grateful for everything he has done for me. He’s someone I respect and will always be thankful to.”

Reflecting on his early difficulties at Newcastle, Joelinton admitted the challenges shaped him.

“Hard work, believing in myself and trusting my own ability have played a big role in getting me to where I am today,” he added.

“I always tried to give my best for the club and represent it in the right way.

There were games where things didn’t go well or where I wasn’t at my best level, but I never stopped giving everything.

“When you face challenges, you grow as a man. I grew as a player too, and that was important. Overcoming those moments makes you stronger.

If you keep working hard, something good will come, and that’s what I’ve always believed.

“The club has grown so much from when I first joined to where it is now. Being part of that journey is an amazing feeling and something that makes me proud.”
