Ian Darke Shocked as He Blasts Tuchel’s Decision on Everton Star – ‘For Goodness’ Sake’

Jarrad Branthwaite has been a defensive rock for David Moyes’ side, forming a strong partnership with James Tarkowski since regaining full fitness.

His performances have arguably exceeded the levels he reached late last season under Sean Dyche, yet he has been overlooked by Thomas Tuchel for England’s senior squad.

Instead, the 22-year-old, who made his international debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina last June, has been relegated to Lee Carsley’s Under-21 team.

Tuchel’s selection choices have sparked debate, particularly the inclusion of AC Milan loanee Kyle Walker and Newcastle’s Dan Burn.

Walker, 34, is vastly experienced, holding all 93 of the combined caps between them, while Burn, 32, is relatively new to the international scene.

The decision to exclude Branthwaite has raised eyebrows, especially considering his recent form.

Jordan Henderson’s return to the England squad has also been a controversial talking point, with commentators like Ian Darke expressing surprise at Branthwaite’s omission.

“I think he’s been unlucky,” Darke told Goodison News.

“If you’re looking for a left-sided central defender, there aren’t many better than him, particularly on recent form.”

Darke acknowledged Branthwaite’s dip in form earlier in the season when he wasn’t fully fit but believes he has since put that behind him.

“Branthwaite will be looking at the squad and thinking that Dan Burn has got in – I know he’s had a great week – but Branthwaite himself has to be close in that case to being in Tuchel’s conversation.

“I’m a bit surprised – you should be thinking of the future. Kyle Walker’s got in, for goodness’ sake. But other chances will crop up for Branthwaite.”

Everton fans and Moyes will be frustrated to see Branthwaite depart for international duty, particularly since it is only with the Under-21s.

While playing against France and Portugal could help maintain his match sharpness, it also carries the risk of injury.

Everton appear to have secured their Premier League status ahead of their highly anticipated move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

However, with their final games at Goodison Park approaching, they will want to finish strong, and Branthwaite will be crucial to that goal.

When the squad returns to Finch Farm after the international break, all eyes will be on preparations for a crucial Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield on April 2.
