‘I’m going for’: Alan Shearer shares his prediction for Everton vs Newcastle match

Everton will play at Goodison Park for the second consecutive week, welcoming Newcastle United to Merseyside on Saturday evening.

It’s been a concerning start to the Premier League season for Sean Dyche, but his side finally secured their first win last week.

A brace from Dwight McNeil led the Toffees to a hard-fought comeback victory against Crystal Palace, but they now face the challenge of building on that momentum.

However, maintaining that momentum won’t be easy, as they go up against top-four contenders Newcastle United next.

Alan Shearer is confident his former side will claim victory.

Alan Shearer predicts a Newcastle win over Everton

In his weekly predictions for the Metro, Shearer expressed optimism that Newcastle’s draw with Manchester City last week will boost them enough to secure three points against Everton. He stated:

“Everton got a huge result last time out at home.

They showed great character after going 1-0 down, and McNeil scored a couple of goals. But I thought Newcastle produced their best performance of the season against Man City.

They looked much more like the team they’ve been over the last few years, and I expect them to continue that form. I’m going for an away win.”

Injury concerns for both Newcastle and Everton

Both teams are dealing with significant injury issues heading into the match.

Everton appeared to have a more complete squad earlier in the week, with only four long-term absentees: Armando Broja, Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson, and Youssef Chermiti.

However, more injuries were revealed on Friday.

Dyche confirmed that Jarrad Branthwaite, who recently returned from a long-term injury, has suffered a thigh strain during training and is unlikely to be risked ahead of the international break, with a crucial game against Ipswich Town coming up.

Additionally, Vitaly Mykolenko has picked up a calf injury, sidelining him for a few weeks.

These injuries will likely force Dyche to shuffle his defense, with James Garner expected to start at right-back and Michael Keane coming into the center-back position.

For Newcastle, manager Eddie Howe confirmed that Alexander Isak remains unavailable, and several other key players, including Callum Wilson, Sven Botman, Matt Targett, Jamaal Lascelles, and Lewis Miley, are still out.

However, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, and Fabian Schar, who were doubts, should be fit to play.
