Bristol Rovers to Host Everton and Man United Legend at Memorial Stadium

Bristol Rovers can closely evaluate one of their reported transfer targets this summer with an upcoming friendly against Plymouth Argyle. The Gas will host the Championship side at the Memorial Stadium in a pre-season match on Tuesday, July 30, at 7.00 pm, just over a week before their season opener on Saturday, August 10.

This match will provide manager Matt Taylor a chance to observe Joe Edwards, who has been linked with a move to Rovers. The Bristol Post reported in late May that the club is considering signing Edwards. They attempted to acquire him during the January transfer window after he fell out of favor at Plymouth. However, Edwards stayed in Devon and scored the decisive goal against Hull City, ensuring Plymouth’s place in the Championship next season.

Edwards, who began his career at Bristol City, is under contract with Plymouth until the summer of 2025. Rovers successfully signed James Wilson from Plymouth last summer and aim to recruit another player from them this year.

The friendly against Plymouth will be a strong test for Rovers as both teams prepare for the 2024/25 campaign. Wayne Rooney, who was appointed as Plymouth’s head coach last month, had a challenging tenure at Birmingham City but secured the Home Park role despite competition from other candidates.

This game is the fourth confirmed fixture for Rovers’ summer schedule. Their pre-season starts on Friday, July 5, with the annual friendly against Melksham Town, followed by matches against non-league sides Bath City and Yeovil Town on Saturday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 16, respectively.

Tickets for the Plymouth Argyle match are priced at £10 for adults, £5 for seniors and under-21s, and just £1 for under-14s for those wishing to stand on the terrace.
