‘It’s Time’ – Newcastle Target Matheus Cunha Drops Major Transfer Hint in Surprise Update

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Matheus Cunha, with plans to trigger his £62.5 million release clause.

According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are closely monitoring the Brazilian forward, who was initially brought to Europe by sporting director Paul Mitchell during his tenure at RB Leipzig.

Cunha has earned 13 caps for Brazil since his 2021 debut and has proven his value at club level, scoring 31 goals in 85 appearances for Wolves since joining permanently 18 months ago.

Initially arriving on loan from Atletico Madrid, he became a key figure at Molineux after Pedro Neto’s transfer to Chelsea.

However, his career has not been without controversy.

Discipline concerns have surfaced, notably a red card and FA fine for an altercation with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Cunha also drew criticism in January for confronting a journalist following claims he ignored Wolves’ traveling fans post-match.

These incidents have raised concerns among Newcastle fans, especially given the player’s price tag.

If signed, Cunha would become the second-most-expensive player in the club’s history, just behind Alexander Isak.

Any move could depend on Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, with other top Premier League clubs also reportedly interested.

Ahead of Wolves’ clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Cunha caused a stir by posting—and quickly deleting—a cryptic message on social media: “(It’s) time to be happy.

I will follow my dreams, not yours… so stay cool.” The message has sparked speculation about his future and possibly unsettled the Wolves camp.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira confirmed that Cunha will start on the bench against Spurs, having just completed a four-match ban from the Kerkez incident.

Interestingly, Wolves have won all three league games played during his suspension.
