West Ham United are reportedly competing with another Premier League club for the signature of a high-scoring midfielder, as the club begins its summer rebuild.
Following a disappointing 2024-25 season that ended in a modest 14th-place finish, despite a final-day 3-1 win over Ipswich Town, manager Graham Potter is eyeing significant changes to his squad.
As part of that overhaul, Potter has reunited with Kyle Macaulay—his former Brighton colleague—who has taken up the role of head of recruitment at the London club.

However, it was his attacking contributions that truly shone. In 42 Championship appearances, he notched an impressive 24 goal involvements—18 goals and six assists.
His form peaked with a brace against Millwall last month, drawing high praise from commentator Phil Bird, who labelled his performance “out of this world.”
His availability on a free transfer could make him a tempting option for West Ham, especially given the club’s need for cost-effective squad improvements.
Nevertheless, there are lingering questions about whether Brownhill could replicate his Championship form in the Premier League.
Despite his versatility and experience—he has made 111 Premier League appearances—his top-flight stats are more modest, with just six goals and six assists.
While Brownhill could add depth and flexibility to Potter’s midfield, he may not be the transformative figure needed to elevate West Ham to the next level.
