Moyes Inspires Everton to Impressive Opening to the Season
For several years, Everton have been nervously glancing towards the relegation zone, but David Moyes has brought a very different sense of belief back to Merseyside.
Since stepping in for Sean Dyche in January, the Scotsman has transformed the mood around Goodison Park, guiding Everton to sixth place in the Premier League table over a 24-game spell.
That form has not only eased fears but also rekindled hopes of something far greater.
Supporters have taken further encouragement from the club’s transfer business. Summer arrivals Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have already proven to be inspired additions, settling quickly into the side and becoming vital contributors.
Grealish, in particular, has been quick to embrace his role and the responsibility that comes with being one of Everton’s standout players.
Asked about the club’s ambitions this season in a Sky Sports interview with Tim Sherwood, Grealish gave an honest assessment.
“I’d love to win something, I’d love to,” the 30-year-old admitted. “Obviously, going out of the Carabao Cup was disappointing, but we still have the FA Cup to look forward to.
I don’t want to put too much pressure on the club or my teammates, but the dream is to get into Europe.
These days, even seventh or eighth can be enough, and it would be unbelievable for this club and for the fans who really deserve it.”
Moyes himself has been just as clear in outlining his aims. Speaking during the summer, he underlined his ambition to return Everton to European competition for the first time since the 2017/18 season.
“We had such a fantastic time at West Ham, winning in Europe,” Moyes reflected. “Now back at Everton, I want to set similar standards.
In my first spell here, we made it to Europe quite regularly, and I believe that has to be the target again.
With a new stadium on the horizon, new ownership, and real positivity, we may not get there overnight, but it’s something we have to strive for.”
Victory against West Ham tomorrow would only strengthen that case. A win would propel Everton back into the top half of the table, leaving them just a point or two off the Champions League places and reinforcing the growing optimism around the club.
