Jamie Vardy has been cautioned that a potential move to Celtic under Brendan Rodgers would not guarantee him a starting role in every match.

The 38-year-old striker, who departed Leicester City at the end of last season, remains a free agent, and speculation over a reunion with Rodgers in Glasgow continues to circulate.

Debate in Scotland has centered on Vardy’s age, motivation, and whether he could adapt to the demands of Scottish football.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, pundits weighed the positives and negatives of the move.

Former Celtic forward Andy Walker highlighted Rodgers’ inside knowledge of the player.

“Rodgers knows his ability, fitness, and character better than anyone. Yes, he’s 38, but if he remains sharp and in good condition, I think he could still deliver for another season.

Whether he’s on their shortlist, I’m sure Celtic have multiple striker options to assess,” Walker explained.

Former Rangers and Scotland attacker Billy Dodds, however, expressed doubts about the deal.

“His wages would be high, but at least there’s no transfer fee involved since he’s a free agent. It’s not the worst idea, but I expect Celtic will prioritise other targets before considering Vardy,” Dodds noted.

Dodds also pointed to the veteran’s expectations as a possible obstacle.

“From what I’ve read, Vardy wants to play consistently. At Celtic, I don’t think he’d be guaranteed to start every week.

For someone with his experience, being on the bench could be frustrating. He’s already stated he wants regular football before retiring, so that could be an issue.”
