Ex-Leicester City Manager Criticizes Club for "Entitled" Approach After Sacking Steve Cooper
Leicester City dismissed manager Steve Cooper last weekend following a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.
The loss marked Cooper’s seventh defeat in charge of the Foxes, leaving the club with just four wins from 14 games and sitting one spot above the relegation zone.
The decision to part ways with the 44-year-old has sparked mixed reactions.
While pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have questioned the sacking, others have supported the move.
Among those critical of the decision is former Leicester manager Martin O’Neil, an iconic figure at the club.
O’Neil, who led Leicester to two League Cup titles during his tenure, expressed his disappointment over Cooper’s dismissal.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, he reflected on the club’s changing atmosphere since their historic Premier League win in 2016.
“Things at Leicester have changed,” O’Neil said. “They won the Premier League and the FA Cup.
Then [Enzo] Maresca brought them up, but they weren’t happy with Steve. I loved my time there, but there is a sense of entitlement now.”
The Foxes are now closing in on appointing Cooper’s successor, with reports suggesting Ruud van Nistelrooy is the frontrunner for the job.
The 48-year-old Dutchman, highly regarded in managerial circles, became available after leaving Manchester United following Erik ten Hag’s departure.
Leicester is expected to confirm van Nistelrooy’s appointment soon, with an announcement originally anticipated for Thursday, November 28. However, it now seems more likely to occur on Friday.
