Souttar in Line for Rangers Captaincy After Contract Extension

Scottish journalist Mark Guidi believes Souttar could become the next Rangers captain if he commits his future to the club.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (20 March), Guidi suggested that the 28-year-old centre-back is the leading candidate to take over from James Tavernier once the veteran right-back moves on.

“For me, if Souttar stays and signs a new contract, he’s the next captain,” Guidi said. “Souttar or Raskin are the next captain of Rangers.”

With Tavernier now 33, the club will soon need to decide on his successor.

Both Souttar and Nico Raskin have been identified as potential leaders for the future.

Ferguson Counting on Souttar at Ibrox

Interim manager Barry Ferguson has made a strong case to stay in charge at Rangers after securing impressive wins over Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.

These victories have increased calls for him to be given the job on a permanent basis.

While progressing past Athletic Club in the Europa League quarter-finals remains a tough challenge, Rangers fans are hopeful of another strong performance.

Souttar is currently on international duty with Scotland and delivered an impressive performance in their Nations League victory over Greece on 20 March.

Given his injury struggles this season, Ferguson will be hoping he returns to Glasgow unscathed.
