Journalist Reveals AC Milan’s Current Stance on Signing Tottenham’s Emerson Royal

The clearout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is in full swing this summer, with several players already departing the club.

Ange Postecoglou’s first season in north London has allowed him to assess the squad he inherited from Antonio Conte. It has become clear that several players do not meet the Australian’s requirements at Tottenham.

Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon have already been moved on, with Spurs accepting significant losses by allowing them to leave for free. However, the club may face difficulties in selling their second-choice right-back, Emerson Royal, in the coming weeks.

Clearing out unwanted players marks a positive start to the summer transfer window for Tottenham. This will provide Postecoglou and the fans with a clear understanding of the squad’s needs, emphasizing the importance of squad depth for the upcoming season.

Tottenham will need to make additions across the pitch over the coming months to prepare for a busier season. According to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, Milan has other priorities before considering Emerson’s signature.

“Defenders aren’t a priority at the moment. Milan’s first signing will be a striker,” Pellegatti said. “The attacker is the priority: they need to understand the cost for him first. When they tell me no, they have never betrayed me, and I can say that Rafa Marin is not of interest. However, the track for Emerson Royal must be kept alive. There is already an agreement with the agents, and I don’t think there are any major discussions with Tottenham,” Pellegatti added.

“Milan said, ‘yes, but he won’t be our first signing. We’ll talk about it later.’ I can take this situation for granted.”

It is also believed that Spurs have contacted Monaco about the availability of right-back Vanderson this summer. From one Brazilian to another, Tottenham could potentially replace Emerson with a player they feel could offer a more suitable alternative to Pedro Porro.

Emerson struggled significantly during the 2023/24 campaign when covering for various injuries, highlighting his inability to match the required quality. However, it remains to be seen whether Spurs will need to offload Emerson before bringing in new talent.

Overall, Tottenham’s efforts to clear out underperforming players and bring in new signings are crucial steps in their preparation for the upcoming season. By addressing these issues, Postecoglou aims to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level. The club’s focus on strengthening various positions and ensuring adequate squad depth will be vital as they look to improve on their performance in the previous campaign. The ongoing transfer activities will shape the team’s prospects and ambitions for the future, making this summer a pivotal period for Tottenham Hotspur.
