West Ham United have stepped up their January recruitment plans after submitting an £11 million bid for Viktoria Plzen striker Rafiu Durosinmi, according to reports from journalist Alan Nixon.
Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to reinforce his attacking options next month as the Hammers battle to avoid relegation, particularly with Niclas Fullkrug expected to complete a move to AC Milan in the coming weeks.
West Ham’s problems in front of goal were again highlighted on Saturday, as they slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Fulham.
That result leaves the London club languishing in 18th place, five points adrift of safety, with the season approaching its halfway stage.
Writing on his Patreon page, Nixon claims West Ham are now “getting serious” about a deal for Durosinmi, although their opening offer may fall short.
Bundesliga side Stuttgart are understood to have tabled a slightly higher £12m bid for the prolific forward, while Lazio have also made contact to explore the possibility of a transfer.
Competition for the striker is therefore intense, and Plzen are aware they hold a valuable asset.
The 22-year-old Nigerian has an impressive record of 35 goals in 86 appearances for the Czech club and is believed to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
Nixon reports that Durosinmi would welcome the chance to join West Ham and is now waiting for Plzen’s ownership to approve a sale, having already informed the club of his desire to leave.
He came close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer, and with multiple sides now circling, Plzen are increasingly open to cashing in.
From a tactical perspective, Durosinmi appears well suited to Nuno Espirito Santo’s approach.
Although there is an element of risk attached to signing a player who has never featured outside the Czech leagues, his profile matches what the Portuguese coach often looks for in a striker.
As demonstrated by his use of Chris Wood at Nottingham Forest, Nuno favours a powerful focal point leading the line.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Durosinmi is strong, physical and renowned for his tireless work rate, qualities that could prove invaluable in a relegation scrap.
He would also provide a different dimension to West Ham’s attack, offering aerial presence and physicality that players such as Callum Wilson and Jarrod Bowen cannot consistently supply.
Such attributes could be decisive as West Ham fight for League survival.
