Kasper Schmeichel Shares His Prediction for Leicester City’s Future No.1 Mads Hermansen

Leicester City legend Kasper Schmeichel has expressed his excitement about the future of Danish goalkeeping, particularly regarding his international understudy and current Foxes stopper, Mads Hermansen.

Schmeichel believes Hermansen has already proven he belongs at the highest level and looks forward to seeing his development in the coming years.

Both goalkeepers are currently on international duty with Denmark, and Schmeichel played a key role in securing a 1-0 victory over Portugal in the Nations League on Thursday.

The 38-year-old, who made nearly 500 appearances for Leicester and won four trophies during his time at the King Power Stadium, has amassed 112 caps for Denmark.

He was also named Denmark’s Footballer of the Year in 2016, 2019, and 2020.

Now at Celtic, where he has reunited with Brendan Rodgers, Schmeichel has been mentoring Hermansen and Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen over recent international breaks.

He is excited about the next generation of Danish goalkeepers who will eventually succeed him.

Hermansen, 14 years younger than Schmeichel, has yet to earn his first senior international cap.

However, Schmeichel remains confident that Denmark’s goalkeeping future is in safe hands when he eventually steps away from international duty.

“Both Mads Hermansen and Filip Jorgensen have impressed and proven that they belong at the top level,” Schmeichel told Danish outlet Bold.

“It’s a positive sign for Danish football’s future, and I look forward to seeing more from them. They are two very talented goalkeepers.

“I hope and expect that every player called up to the national team gets the chance to play. Otherwise, they shouldn’t be here.

My own approach when I first joined the national team was to fight for the starting spot. I had to wait several years for my debut, but that’s just part of the game.”

At club level, Hermansen has been Leicester’s first-choice goalkeeper under both Steve Cooper and Ruud van Nistelrooy this season.

However, a mid-season groin injury provided opportunities for Danny Ward and Jakub Stolarczyk to get game time.

Hermansen is among eight Leicester players currently on international duty.

Jordan Ayew is captaining Ghana and scored in their 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chad on Friday.

Wout Faes is with Belgium, Bobby Decordova-Reid is representing Jamaica, and Ward is in action for Wales.

Danish centre-back Jannik Vestergaard is also in camp alongside Hermansen.

Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi is playing for Nigeria, and Bilal El Khannouss made an impact for Morocco, scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Niger on Friday.
